Irmarie Smal

Irmarie Smal graduated in B.Sc. (Agric) Animal Science at the University of Pretoria in 2016 and
obtained her MSc. (Agric) Animal Nutrition in 2019. She started her career in the pig industry in 2017
at the Gene Transfer Centre of PIC South Africa. Later in 2017 she filled the role of assistant manager
at the PIC South Africa Nucleus Boar line stud where she also conducted her MSc trials.

After completing her MSc on the optimal lysine: energy ratio’s for lean growth in modern pig genotypes,
she took over the nutrition component of the PIC South Africa nucleus farms as well as taking on the
responsibility for the implementation of PIC nutritional recommendations on customer farms. She is
also involved in genetic services in South Africa.
